According to claims from Germany this evening, Southampton are closing in on the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach central defender Jannik Vestergaard.
It’s believed by German news outlet Kicker, as reported by Bundesliga footballing expert Mark Lovell via Twitter, that Saints are set to complete the signing of the Danish international.

Initial talks were allegedly held between Southampton and Monchengladbach earlier on this week, with the two clubs said to be negotiating a transfer fee for the move.

It’s been reported previously that Monchengladbach value Vestergaard at €20m, which would make him one of Saints’ most expensive ever signings if they are to agree to the Bundesliga club’s apparent terms.
Southampton are looking to sign a new central defender this summer following their failure to replace Virgil van Dijk in January, and if Kicker are to be believed, Vestergaard is set to arrive at St Mary’s in the near future.
