Southampton have reportedly held ‘initial talks’ with Borussia Monchengladbach over a deal to sign Jannik Vestergaard this summer.
According to claims from Sky Sports, the Saints have already contacted the Bundesliga club to discuss a deal for the Denmark international, with negotiations ongoing as the two parties look to reach an agreement on a fee.
Vestergaard was a part of Denmark’s 23-man squad for the World Cup this summer but failed to make an appearance, as he saw his side crash out of the competition in the round of 16.

Southampton are looking to sign at least one central defender this summer, with Barcelona youngster Marlon Santos having also been linked with a move to the south coast in recent times.
Vestergaard is set to be a wanted man ahead of next season and according to the reports from Sky Sports, West Ham are also contemplating a move for the player.
Saints haven’t yet replaced Virgil van Dijk following his move to Liverpool in January and it seems Vestergaard has been lined up as a top target this summer.
