Southampton were willing to splash the cash on signing James Maddison from Norwich City this summer, but home comforts have drawn the player to Leicester City.
Saints, according to various sources in recent times, were prepared to spend a club-record sum of £22 million to recruit the England Under-21 international from Norwich. However, Leicester have won the race for Maddison and Saints will be forced to shop elsewhere.
It’s sure to come as a big blow for Mark Hughes and his men; it’s a rarity that Southampton are prepared to spend such a fee on a player, thereby the club’s interest was evident.
