Mark Hughes plans raid of Stoke for Xherdan Shaqiri
Southampton have been linked for a move for Stoke midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri, according to the Daily Star.
The Swiss international was signed by Mark Hughes in the Potteries, and has established himself as Stoke’s key player.
However, with Stoke deep in the relegation mix, and a potential drop to the Championship looming, Shaqiri could look to leave the Bet365 Stadium.
However, a potential move to Southampton would require Saints to stay up in the Premier League and Stoke to go down. Shaqiri is unlikely to leave Stoke if they stay in the Premier League.
Shaqiri was signed by Hughes for £12m from Inter Milan. The Swiss star had failed to make in impact in Italy, after joining from Bayern Munich.
The winger will be going to the World Cup with his country and will be hoping to show the type of form he showed in France at Euro 2016 where Shaqiri scored a sensational goal against Poland.
