Southampton will go down under Mauricio Pellegrino. It is as simple as that.

It was another gutless display from Saints. They were totally and utterly outclassed by a ruthless Liverpool side who, in truth, should have netted more than two.

Roberto Firmino netted the Reds’ first after Mohamed Salah took advantage of Wesley Hoedt kicking thin air to allow the Egyptian in behind the defence.

Salah himself doubled the advantage as he and Firmino combined once again to utterly bemuse the Saints defence with trickery, innovation and creativity; three things that we, as fans, have been deprived of seeing this season from Pellegrino’s side.

The second-half was nothing short of disgraceful, either. Saints failed to have a shot after the interval and it was a training exercise for Liverpool. They even brought on Dejan Lovren.

Saints were a mess defensively and were totally brainless in attack. The board’s recent shortcomings are catching up with the team and there is only one way this club is heading.

Here are my Southampton player ratings following that shambles.
