Liverpool vs Southampton: Last time out
Southampton return from the international break, facing a tough trip to free-scoring Liverpool, in the Premier League this weekend.
Mauricio Pellegrino’s side lost out 1-0 to a stubborn Burnley side before the international period, whilst Liverpool comfortably beat West Ham 4-1 at the London Stadium.
The Anfield club currently sit in 5th place in the top-flight, with goal-shy Saints eight places lower in 13th.
The last time these two sides met at Anfield, they played out a 0-0 draw, as Saints failed to register a single shot on target. The main focal point in this affair, was when James Milner saw his second-half penalty saved by a fully-stretched Fraser Forster in the Saints goal, as he missed his first spot-kick in nine years.
Southampton sat back and let Liverpool control the game for the most part, stifling any opportunities that the hosts created, as they earned a hard fought point on Merseyside.
However, with Liverpool having scored 21 goals in their first 11 matches, the third highest in the league, this weekend’s game certainly isn’t shaping up to be a dull encounter.
