Southampton kicked off their Premier League season in frustrating fashion as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Swansea.
The Saints dominated possession but failed to make it count as they missed a number of glorious opportunities.
Dusan Tadic had the first, and best, chance of the match early on. Ryan Bertrand got clear down the left and pulled the ball back to Tadic five-yards out from goal, but the Serbian sent his close range effort wide.
Southampton had multiple strong penalty shouts throughout the game, with referee Mike Jones denying all claims.
Alfie Mawson and Kyle Bartley both clearly handled the ball in the area in the first and then second half but a case could be made for them being accidental.
Another big shout came when Federico Fernandez chopped Tadic down from behind just inside the box, with Jones waving play on.
Here is how we rated the Saints…
Fraser Forster: 7
Had virtually nothing to do in terms of shot-stopping, but was quick off his line to collect the ball on a couple of occasions.
Cedric Soares: 8
Cedric put in a very strong performance down the right for Southampton.
The fullback made a terrific block from Tammy Abraham in the second half to deny what looked a clear goal, and put in some good deliveries into the box going forward.
Maya Yoshida: 7
Defensively, Yoshida was fine – although he did get turned easily by Abraham in the box.
However, his use of the ball left a lot to be desired. Too many passes/headers went out of play or straight to Swansea, sloppy.
Also missed a sublime chance when he somehow headed over the bar from three yards.
Jack Stephens: 8
Another top-quality performance from this man.
He dealt with everything that came his way and did a terrific job of handling his England under-21 teammate Abraham.
His use of the ball was composed and efficient, too.
Ryan Bertrand: 7
Not troubled defensively but he was good going forward and put a couple of excellent crosses into the box. Deserved an assist.
Oriol Romeu: 8
Swept up ahead of the centre-backs very well and his use of the ball was better than a number of games last season.
He looked to play forward, incisive, passes and put a real shift in in midfield.
Steven Davis: 7
Davis was industrious as ever but he lacked a cutting edge and that little bit of quality going forward.
Would take him out for Mario Lemina against West Ham.
James Ward-Prowse: 5
Ward-Prowse was poor. His crosses and set-pieces never beat the first man and he offered precious little in-game.
He’ll have many better performances this season, for sure.
Dusan Tadic: 6
Was tempting to give him a lower score for his horrendous miss in the first-half but he also created a number of chances for his teammates.
Tadic picked up intelligent positions between the Swansea midfield and defence to create openings, though it came to nothing in the end.
Nathan Redmond: 6
Redmond started the game brightly then started to fade away as the game wore on.
He looked dangerous in the first-half and came close to scoring in the second-half when his goal-bound header was blocked.
Manolo Gabbiadini: 5
Gabbiadini was poor. He picked up some good positions at times but failed to really impose himself on the game.
The only chances he did get, were spurned by the Italian.
