Southampton came away from White Hart Lane with an overwhelming sense of frustration yesterday as they just fell short at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.

Saints headed into the game as the underdogs but were hopeful of pulling off a shock result, making it three consecutive wins away from home in the Premier League.

However, it was an incredibly intense affair and Spurs were the ones that took away all the plaudits thanks to two first-half goals.

Christian Eriksen wasn’t closed down on the edge of the box and managed to convert beyond Fraser Forster into the bottom right corner, making it 1-0 to the hosts. Spurs then doubled their lead as Dele Alli fired home a penalty after he was judged to have been fouled by Saints skipper Steven Davis.

James Ward-Prowse pulled a goal back in the second-half with a well-taken left-footed drive, but it didn’t prove to be enough on the day.

Here are five players that we feel impressed for Saints.
