So, the weekend of the EFL Cup final is finally upon us! On Sunday, Southampton will meet Manchester United at Wembley Stadium in an attempt to win their first major honour in over 40 years.
Saints have been in superb form throughout the course of the tournament. They’ve seen off Crystal Palace, Sunderland, Arsenal, Liverpool twice over two legs, and now face the final test at Wembley.
United have also done well to reach this stage, also. Jose Mourinho is renowned for his superb record in major finals, and it’s certainly going to be a difficult test for Saints as they take on The Red Devils.
Claude Puel hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to injuries over the last few months and the absences of team captain Virgil van Dijk, top scorer Charlie Austin and potentially Sofiane Boufal are sure to be blows.
However, anything can happen in cup finals and Puel and Saints fans alike will hope that the footballing gods are on their side when they lock horns with an experienced United side.
The whole Southampton fan base is buzzing at the moment and regardless of the outcome on the day, it’s sure to be an occasion to cherish forever.
