Tomorrow comes an important game for The Saints; a win is dearly overdue but when the competitor is Arsenal, it’s not going to go down so easily.
If we’re going off results from the last few years, Saints can go to the Emirates with stacks of confidence. A 0-0 draw at the Emirates last season with an outstanding performance from Fraser Forster and a 4-0 win at home on Boxing Day with a goal of the season contender from Cuco Martina are the two that stand out in Southampton’s favour.
Both squads have changed in places since the last time these two sides met; Arsenal have a new key man in the middle through Granit Xhaka but once again, Arsene Wenger failed to please The Gunners’ demanding fans.
With Southampton, they’ve lost some key assets such as Victor Wanyama and Sadio Mane, but they’ve also gained in depth with signings such as Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg and Sofiane Boufal, who is confirmed not to be in tomorrow’s squad due to injury.
I’ve decided to base this combined line-up primarily on players that are fit to play for either side in tomorrow afternoon’s clash, so the likes of Boufal and Jeremy Pied, who is also injured, won’t be included.
