Juanmi reveals desire to join Sociedad

Southampton forward Juanmi has revealed that his tenure at St Mary’s is coming to an imminent close after the Spaniard admitted that he has been frustrated by the lack of playing opportunities under Ronald Koeman, with Real Sociedad in talks over a move this month.

Juanmi has made just ten appearances for Saints since joining from Malaga in the summer, but has failed to really live up to the expectations set of him before his arrival at the club.

It was always going to be hard for the Spanish international to break into the first team plans at Southampton due to their wide range of firepower in the striking options, made even harder by the arrival of prolific striker Charlie Austin.

Juanmi has struggled massively to settle in England, struggling with the language and without any genuine chance to impress, the exit door was always beckoning for him.

Joining Real Sociedad is a good option for me. All the players want to play, and here, I am not having too many opportunities. I know the clubs are already talking and I would like them to reach an agreement. But I can not say much more.

A move back to Spain could be just what Juanmi needs; a league that suits him much better than in England, with less physical demands and a more comfortable setting for the youngster.

The deal for Juanmi that Real Sociedad are negotiating is said to be a six-month loan deal that will take him up to the end of the season, but with a view to make the deal permanent if he impresses during his loan. However, Sociedad are keen to sign the player permanently straight away, as opposed to the initial loan that Southampton are demanding of the Spanish giants.

Are you happy to see Juanmi go?
