Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has told Southampton’s website how impressed he has been with Charlie Austin over the past week.
The Saints signed Austin last Saturday on a three-and-a-half year deal from Championship side QPR for a £4m fee.
Austin scored 18 goals in the Premier League last season for QPR as they were relegated from the Premier League and had scored ten goals already this season in the Championship.

The 26-year-old is expected to be in the squad against Manchester United this weekend and it will be a big chance for Austin to impress on his debut at Old Trafford. Austin is likely to be on the bench but could have an impact later on in the match
He was carrying a slight hamstring injury before his move to Southampton and Koeman has said that did worry him. However, Koeman has been really impressed with Austin’s application on and off the pitch in the past week.
It’s very good.
Of course, you analyse the player, you know why you like to buy that player, because of his number of goals, but his whole attitude – I spoke to Charlie two weeks ago and that’s important to have really a good impression, if you talk about football, but also about other things out of football, because I like to have a talk to the player and to have really a good feeling about the player, then the possibility that everything goes well is ok.
He showed personality and on the pitch this week he showed his qualities and he’s a very good signing.
