Southampton chasing Blades youngster

Southampton have emerged as the latest Premier League club to take an interest in promising Sheffield United youngster Che Adams after the 19-year-old’s impressive performances at Bramall Lane.

Adams has been in impressive form for the Blades so far this season, notching seven goals in 22 appearances for the League One outfit under former Southampton boss Nigel Adkins.

Coincidentally, Adams made his senior debut for Sheffield United against none other than Southampton last season, as the Blades pulled off a huge cup upset in the quarter finals of the Capital One Cup to defeat the Saints 1-0.

However, since then, Adams has come along superbly for Adkins’ men, developing all aspects of his game and showing signs of huge promise.

Adams has also made two appearances for England’s under-20’s, but the powerful attacker will have his sights firmly set on his first call-up to the under-21’s squad in the near future; something that a move up to the top flight could help him with.

If Southampton are to pursue their interest in the pacey starlet during the summer transfer window, they will have to fend off competition from other potential suitors in the Premier League, such as Manchester City and Bournemouth.

It has been reported that the bidding for Adams is set to start at a more than reasonable £1.75 million, however City are said to be leading the race to sign the youngster as they prepare to launch a £3 million bid at the League One club for the forward’s services.
