Saints reject £8 million Long offer from Liverpool

Southampton have reportedly turned down an offer for star striker Shane Long from Liverpool after the forward was the subject of the Reds and Tottenham’s interest in recent days.

Long has been in exceptional form for the Saints since being drafted into the starting line-up for Graziano Pelle due to his knee injury, bagging three goals in his last six appearances and proving his capabilities as a forward to Ronald Koeman.

The bid from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool was said to be around £8 million; a fee that is even less than what Saints signed the Republic of Ireland international for in the summer of 2014.

After the surprise arrival of prolific striker Charlie Austin at St Mary’s, there was plenty of talk regarding some of Southampton’s striker’s futures, starting with Long.

It comes as no shock to see clubs such as Liverpool and Tottenham, who are looking for striking reinforcements, coming looking for Long, however they are being forced to look elsewhere by a firm stance from Saints who have vowed to keep hold of their prized assets for the remainder of the season.

Long has really come into his own for the Saints this season and has proved on several occasions why he deserves to start more frequently for his side.
