It was a well-needed victory for Southampton under the floodlights against Watford as they secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over the Hornets to seal their first win after three consecutive defeats.
It took goals in either half from Shane Long and substitute Dusan Tadic to kill off the in-form Watford side as Saints rose to 12th in the Premier League.
There were some standout performances on the night, with a solid defensive performance helped by the return of the imperious Fraser Forster as well as a tenacious midfield complimented with a speedy front line.
However, one player that will take all the plaudits after a highly impressionable display in a new position for the Saints comes in the form of young left-back Matt Targett.
The England under-21 international started his second consecutive game for Southampton after seemingly struggling against Crystal Palace in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat, however Targett had an excellent game against Watford.
He was utilised as a left wing-back for the large majority of the game and played a huge part in his side’s crucial win. Targett set up Saints’ opener as he whipped in an excellent delivery for Shane Long to flick the ball home with a deft header in the first half.
Targett defended well and impressed throughout, earning him our man of the match spot.
