Koeman happy to have Forster back

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has told Southampton’s website how happy he was with the return of Fraser Forster for the Saints first-team yesterday.

Forster returned in goal as the Saints picked up their second win in 11 matches with a 2-0 win over Watford at St.Mary’s.

Shane Long opened the scoring when he superbly headed in Matt Targett’s cross to beat Gomes and find the far corner.

Dusan Tadic then made it two in the second half when he held onto the ball well in the box before keeping his composure to slot the ball underneath Gomes and give Southampton the 2-0 win.

Forster made his return following a nine month injury lay-off his return was greeted with delight among the home supporters as they welcomed their number one ‘keeper back. Forster only had one save to make as he made one save low down from Craig Cathcart in the dying minutes.

Speaking about Fraser Forster’s return to action after the game, Ronald Koeman said this:

Very pleased, because we know maybe it’s a little bit less game time [than we would have liked] for Fraser, but he was confident to start and he showed his sureness in the goal.

He had one save in the final minute of the game and we were defending well, it was a good team performance and, ok, very pleased, because clean sheets for goalkeepers and defenders is a big one and finally we get one tonight.
