Liverpool have announced the shock signing of QPR defender Steven Caulker on a loan until the end of the season, cutting short his spell at Southampton.
Caulker has been fairly poor for Southampton, making eight appearances for Ronald Koeman’s men since his arrival but failing to impress on numerous occasions.
Liverpool have been forced into the transfer after being hit by injuries in the defensive areas of their squad, meaning that Caulker was identified as a short-term fix for Jurgen Klopp’s defensive woes.
Caulker has been kept out of the team largely by the centre-back partnership of captain Jose Fonte and Virgil van Dijk this season, but it is no surprise to see Saints cut their ties with the 23-year-old after a hugely unsuccessful tenure at the club.

One standout performance from Caulker, for all the wrong reasons, ironically was against Liverpool for the Saints in their 6-1 defeat to the defender’s new side. It is arguable that Caulker was at fault for up to four of Liverpool’s goals and unsurprisingly, he has not featured since.
The England international is set to start for Liverpool in their next Premier League game away to league leaders Arsenal, just a day after joining the club.
Are you happy to see Caulker go?
