Manchester United are readying a fresh bid for controversial Southampton forward Sadio Mane after his antics before Saturday’s game against Norwich angered manager Ronald Koeman and caused a dispute between the pair.
United have been long-term admirers of Mane and attempted to sign the Senegal international last summer for a fee said to be around £25 million. However, Southampton held firm on their stance for their prized asset and Mane remained in a Saints shirt.
Despite Koeman’s recent statement that no-one will be leaving the club in January, Mane’s actions may have changed the Dutchman’s mindset on this transfer window. Koeman confirmed that Mane was late for training on Thursday and astoundingly, was late for the final team meeting before the Norwich game – just two hours before kick-off.
However, if United want to make a move for the 23-year-old, he will not come cheaply at all. According to strong reports, a deal for Mane is likely to cost up to £62.5 million; a fee of £30 million up front and the other £32.5 million that will be made up from Mane’s astronomical wage demands of £125,000 per week.
Southampton will be hopeful that Mane’s lack of discipline will not be a result of his lack of commitment to the club, as United boss Louis van Gaal continues to express his desire for another physically gifted attacker; possibly in the form of Mane.
