Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has fired a warning to Southampton’s board that if he is not given sufficient financial backing ahead of the new season, he will be forced to leave the club.
Koeman currently has 18 months remaining on his three-year-deal at the club but has indicated that he will consider his options if Southampton are not willing to give him the funds to strengthen his squad as he wishes to.
When asked about his future at the club and whether or not he would see out his contract, Koeman responded fairly assertively, stating how the club must show ambition to progress further.
It is all about ambition. I hate to stay in a situation where there is no ambition. Until today, the club is showing that ambition and if we continue like that the possibility is to grow and to spend money. Of course that will have a big influence in my decision to stay or not to stay.

However, Koeman has admitted that the club is doing what they can to show the same ambition as him and to build a strong side ahead of next season; the campaign which is set to be Koeman’s final bow as Saints boss.
The club is doing everything we can but that is about next season, to bring better players in and have more competition and to grow as a team.
If players see the club is growing and the team is growing and fighting for European football that always makes a difference. But we know our situation and our position and still there is a difference between us and the big clubs.
Do you think that Koeman will stay for the length of his three-year-deal?
