Saints plotting move for Imbula

Southampton are reportedly eyeing a move for promising French midfielder Giannelli Imbula of Porto as a potential replacement for Victor Wanyama if he leaves in the summer.

Imbula was signed by Porto just last summer, whilst being linked with Saints, but the Frenchman opted to sign for the Portuguese giants.

Ronald Koeman is a big admirer of Imbula’s talents and the midfielder could potentially head his list of replacements for when Wanyama inevitably departs in the summer.

Imbula, at the age of just 23, has made only five appearances for Porto this season but when he has been called upon, it has been clear to see why there is so much hype and attention surrounding the tenacious French midfielder.

The Porto man impressed in their Champions League match against Chelsea as his side won 2-1, by controlling the midfield and showing signs of his class.

It is hard to look past Wanyama leaving in the summer, but if the services of a midfielder like Imbula can be secured, Southampton will have little to worry about.
