Southampton have been named as shock favourites to make a move for QPR and England striker Charlie Austin in January as Ronald Koeman looks to strengthen his attacking options.
The Saints were linked with Austin last summer along with plenty of other Premier League clubs who looked to pounce on the Englishman after an impressive first season in the top-flight, however it seems as though now Southampton are readying a move for the striker.
Austin got off to an excellent start this season in the Championship, scoring goals frequently before a knee injury hindered his progress. However, Austin is back fit now and doing what he does best – scoring goals.
If Southampton are looking to sign Austin, they must cough up the £8 million price tag that has been set for the prolific forward; a snip for such a proven clinical finisher.
A move for Austin would not be beyond the realms of possibility in January as QPR may look to offload the striker to free up some budget for their wages and to have more money at their disposal, as well as Ronald Koeman potentially delving into the transfer market to boost his attack after Jay Rodriguez was ruled out for up to eight weeks with a foot injury.
