Southampton’s unbeaten away record ended this weekend as they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at The Etihad against Manchester City.
Goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Fabian Delph and Alexandar Kolarov gave City the three points and ended the Saints fine record that had seen them go all season so far without an away loss.

In a game that produced very few positives; there was one that stood out. The performance of Shane Long. The Irishman was drafted into the side in place of the suspended Graziano Pelle, who is the club’s top scorer this season, but put in as good a performance as Pelle may have.
The 28-year-old forward scored a fantastic header early in the second half for Southampton and put in an all-round decent performance among many poor performances from the rest of the Saints squad.
I don’t think there was anyone else more deserving of our man of the match than Shane Long.
