Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is going to have to wait until at least next summer before he can think of signing Dries Mertens from Napoli, or so says the Belgian’s agent.
Mertens has been linked with Southampton a number of times this year and was thought to be attracting interest from other Premier League clubs; with Liverpool keen on bringing him in.
However, his agent, Soren Lerby, has spoken out and said that there is no way that Mertens will leave Napoli in January. This means that any potential move for the winger by any club is to take place next summer, and after the European Championships, which Mertens is likely to be a part of with Belgium.
Southampton have been linked to a few wingers ahead of the January transfer window but this one looks as though it will not be going ahead, well at least not in the near future.
I have heard these rumours but there is absolutely nothing concrete. We are not talking about these rumours. Dries is not leaving Napoli in January.
