As the deadline day comes to a close, a surprisingly quiet Southampton sold Emmanuel Mayuka under the radar on Monday.

Most fans are still itching for a big name defender to arrive at St. Mary’s Stadium, but will have to wait for now. The Zambian striker joined recently relegated French side Metz on a three year long contract after his career as a Saint never quite worked out.
Mayuka was signed from BSC Young Boys in 2012 as a promising, raw talent yet never impressed on the south coast. The 24-year-old has long been told by Ronald Koeman that he is not a part of the first team plans and it finally came to fruition Monday. Mayuka made 16 appearances in total for Southampton and failed to ever score.
Mostly seen as a distraction or nuisance, the departure of Mayuka will hopefully pave the way for new arrivals in the closing hours of the transfer window. Fans have had the name of Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk on the tips of their tongues the last few weeks. Not without good reason considering all the media coverage and absences of Van Dijk in Celtic team activities. Soon enough we will find out if a deal will materialize.
