The dailymail are reporting this morning that Ronald Koeman has ruled out Southampton exits for both Sadio Mane and Victor Wanyama.
With the deadline being tomorrow at 6pm, Koeman will not want to lose any more players with no sufficient time to bring in replacements.
Victor Wanyama was left out of the Southampton squad as Southampton beat Norwich 3-0.
When asked about his absence, Ronald Koeman said “It was important to play with players who are really committed to the team and really focussed.”
“The situation of Victor is he has lost some focus to the club and that was the reason I took finally to keep him out of the squad.”
Wanyama has already reportedly asked to leave Southampton and the dailymail are also reporting that Tottenham are very interested in the Kenyan midfielder.
Tottenham were reportedly willing to offer a deal adding up to £18m as well as offering wide forward Erik Lamela on a season long loan to sweeten the deal.
When asked about Sadio Mane “It’s the same question as what it was for Sadio Mane or for every player in this team. Nobody is for sale. That’s an easy answer and the players have to accept that. Maybe it’s good for Victor to talk to Morgan. Because Morgan I think is more happy now than he was last year.”
There is clearly a differentiation of motivation between Wanyama’s potential departure and Mane’s. Whilst Victor Wanyama was trying to force a deal away from the club he was unable to play for Southampton on Sunday, Sadio Mane had his head on straight and was able to set up all three of Saints goals versus Norwich.
After handing in his transfer request, Wanyama told Ronald Koeman he was not in the right frame of mind to be able to feature at the weekend. Ronald Koeman has advised Victor Wanyama to speak to his old team-mate, now of Manchester United, Morgan Schneiderlin. Koeman thinks talking to him would help Wanyama due to Schneiderlin holding off on a move to Tottenham and evntually earning a move to Manchester United where he is reportedly very happy.
