A request coming this late in the transfer window only causes more chaos for a club, especailly one that is struggling on the pitch, like Souhampton. Considering Wanyama’s track record of backing the club it is worrisome that he may be trying to jump ship. Does he not see the struggling club bouncing back to last season form? A strong leader and consistent first teamer attempting to leave only makes this situation more disheartening; fans would rather see his effort increase after some not so favorable results.
Tottenham and Arsenal have been linked to Wanyama throughout the transfer window. Koeman did give fans reassurance when he caught up with a sideline reporter after the 0-0 draw with Watford last Sunday saying, “All I can say is that for Victor, the future is in Southampton”
He reiterated, “And it is all about contracts and you have to respect contracts and nobody is for sale. And I spoke about that I think two or three days ago, and it still has the same meaning.”
Wanyama did play the full match versus Watford, but he may be looking for more higher level football or attempting to reunite with his former manager Pochettino.
Southampton take on FC Midtjylland on Thursday at 7:45 in Denmark.
