Southampton appear to have been handed a transfer boost, with reported target Victor Osimhen stating that he is highly unlikely to stay at loan club Charleroi this summer.
The Saints have been named as one of several clubs who have expressed an interest in landing the young Nigerian forward in the current transfer window.
Osimhen has enjoyed a fantastic season on loan with Charleroi but is poised to return to VfL Wolfsburg, who reportedly value their promising attacker at just €12 million.
The 20-year-old scored within the first minute of his side’s Pro League play-off final outing against Royal Antwerp on Sunday but could do little to prevent a 3-2 defeat being inflicted on his side, as they missed out on Europa League qualification.
Speaking after the game, as quoted by Le Soir, Osimhen confirmed that there is a ’75 per cent’ chance that he will be playing his football away from Charleroi next season.
The forward said:
There is a 75 per cent chance that I will leave Charleroi.
Other strikers who Southampton should consider moving for
Maupay was in fine form for Brentford throughout the season. The Frenchman would be an astute signing for Southampton.
Kruse, albeit not in the usual ilk of signing that Southampton make, would be a shrewd addition. His contract at Werder Bremen is up, and he would be a reliable, experienced option.
Augustin may be on his way out of RB Leipzig this summer. Ralph Hasenhuttl has worked with him and is an admirer of his talents.
Adams was eyed by Southampton in January and could be a target again this summer. The forward would provide the team with a youthful, physically-gifted option.
Wesley has outgrown the Pro League. The Club Brugge striker is destined for a move to one of Europe’s top five divisions, and Southampton would be a reasonable destination for the Brazilian.
