Standard Liege boss discusses Southampton’s potential Djenepo swoop

Standard Liege manager Michel Preud’homme has hinted that Southampton’s possible €22 million swoop to sign Moussa Djenepo could be too good to turn down.

The Saints have been linked with a summer move to sign the Malian winger, who has earned plaudits for his displays in the Belgian Pro League.

Ralph Hasenhuttl could be looking to add more attacking firepower to his squad after guiding the club to Premier League safety during his first half-season in charge at St Mary’s Stadium.

It is likely to be a busy summer for Southampton, and dynamic attackers appear to be on the manager’s wishlist, with Everton youngster Ademola Lookman linked with a reunion with his former RB Leipzig boss earlier on Friday.

However, it seems the Saints’ interest in signing Djenepo could be concrete, as Standard boss Preud’homme has indicated that an offer from the Premier League club is ‘close’.

Speaking to Belgian news outlet DH, as translated in a report from Sport Witness, the manager said:

When you see that a team like Southampton can make an offer of €22m for a player like him, it’s hard to say no. Has there been an offer? It’s close.

There are noises, chats, contacts, but the offer in itself has yet to be confirmed.

Djenepo’s influence for Standard has been evident. He has scored 11 goals in 39 Pro League appearances this term, with six assists to his name.
