Manolo Gabbiadini would need to take a pay cut in order to secure a move back to Bologna in January.
The out-of-favour Southampton striker has been linked with a move away from the club after falling out of favour under Mark Hughes.
According to reports in Italy, Gabbiadini already much more than Bologna’s highest paid player Mattia Destro.
The report claims that Gabbiadini’s contract is worth over €2 million, while Destro only earns around €1.8 million with the Serie A side, casting serious doubts over Bologna’s financial capabilities to complete a deal.
The former Napoli man recently refused to rule out the possibility of a move back to Italy but did stress that he is happy at Southampton, despite the lack of game time.
Gabbiadini has only started one game this season, despite Southampton’s struggles in front of goal.
The 26-year-old is now facing a bleak future at Southampton, but that could change if the pressure continues to mount on Hughes.
