Southampton want to sign Swansea City central defender Alfie Mawson this summer, according to a report from the Guardian.
The Saints finished three points above the Swans in the recently-concluded Premier League season, meaning that Mawson’s men were consigned to relegation down to the Championship.
However, according to the Guardian’s report, Mawson is intent on remaining in the Premier League next season and will look to secure a move away from the Liberty Stadium.
Despite Swansea’s poor season, Mawson was once again a standout performer and appears to have attracted plenty of interest ahead of the summer transfer window, which opens this Thursday.
Southampton did not replace Virgil van Dijk in the January transfer window following his move to Liverpool and almost paid the price for it, as they continued to leak goals right through until the end of the season.
Saints were loosely linked with a move for Mawson in January, and it appears as though they will revive their pursuit of the young defender in the near future.
