Southampton are eyeing up a potential move for Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson.
According to The Mirror, Southampton are scouting Mawson as they look to sign a proven central defender in the January transfer window.
The report claims that Southampton are looking to replace Virgil van Dijk with a quality centre-back and that the club are considering a move for Mawson.
The Swansea defender has impressed at times this season, despite the Welsh outfit being rock bottom of the Premier League.

Mawson scored four Premier League goals in 27 matches for Swansea last season from defence, after joining the club from League One side Barnsley.
He has made 20 appearances this season, but could now be set for a switch to Southampton next month.
Southampton announced the sale of Van Dijk to Liverpool on Wednesday for a world-record £75m fee – the highest amount ever paid for a central defender.
