A number of Southampton fans have been fuming over Ralph Hasenhuttl’s revelation that Kyle Walker-Peters is set to be ruled out injured again with a hamstring problem following the 2-1 defeat at Wolves on Sunday.

The 23-year-old had only recently returned to action from injury and came back into the side for the last three matches. That was a welcome boost for Hasenhuttl, who had used all of Yan Valery, James Ward-Prowse, Jack Stephens and Kayne Ramsay down the right-hand side of their defence during his absence.

Southampton failed to add to their full-back options in the winter window having seen potential moves for the likes of Brandon Williams, Neco Williams and Japhet Tanganga fail to materialise. They also allowed Valery to join Birmingham City on loan for the rest of the campaign, as well as sending Jake Vokins to Sunderland.

Walker-Peters was forced off through injury in the second half of their defeat against Wolves on Sunday, and Hasenhuttl confirmed after the game (via Tom Leach on Twitter) that the right-back has suffered a hamstring injury which is set to keep him out of action for the next few weeks.

Southampton fans react to Walker-Peters injury setback

Many Southampton fans were furious with the latest update on Walker-Peters and suggested that the Saints have caused the problem themselves by failing to strengthen in the full-back area in the January window. Some even believe that the season is already starting to fizzle out.

Who would you play at right-back in Walker-Peters' absence?

Jack Stephens
