A number of Southampton fans have been reacting to a report from Eurosport that Tottenham are monitoring Danny Ings’ contract situation and are prepared to come in with an offer in the summer.
The 28-year-old’s long-term future has been up in the air over the last few weeks, with reports having emerged a few months ago that the Saints were hoping to secure a new deal for him and Ryan Bertrand. However, Southampton have since released a concerning financial report which revealed that the club are in debt and have taken out a sizeable loan due to their ongoing financial difficulties.
Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed that, whilst the Saints are trying to sort out a new contract for Ings, there has been no agreement reached at this stage. However, The Athletic’s Dan Sheldon did suggest that the hold-up is not financial in terms of what Southampton can afford to offer him. The striker’s £75,000-a-week deal expires at the end of next season and, if he doesn’t sign a contract extension, they might have to sell him soon.
Eurosport reported that Tottenham view Ings as an ideal option to bolster their squad and provide competition for Harry Kane in attack. It has also been reported that the Southampton forward wants to join a club in the Champions League, so the Saints might need to pull off a remarkable top four finish to keep hold of him.
Saints fans react to Tottenham’s interest in Ings
Many Southampton fans feel that Tottenham would be a bad destination for Ings, believing he is likely to be a backup option to Kane if he goes there. However, some were keen for the Saints to move quickly to cash in on him if there is no chance of him signing a new contract.

Don’t know why he’d go be a bench warmer for when Kane is injured, the club needs to stop being broke and give him a new deal

He’d be stupid to go there and sit on the bench. Unless they sell Kane
