Saints fans discuss Mohammed Salisu’s situation after injury blow

Plenty of Southampton supporters have been reacting to an update from Ralph Hasenhuttl revealing that defender Mohammed Salisu has picked up a muscle injury.

The 21-year-old has endured something of a frustrating start to life in English football, with the defender having so far been deemed not ready to feature for the Saints in the Premier League. Even with Jannik Vestergaard out injured, the £10.9m signing has not been able to force his way into the side, with Jack Stephens coming into the team instead.

The former Real Valladolid centre-back has been described as ‘the future of this club’ by Hasenhuttl, who has insisted that he has a huge part to play for the Saints in the coming seasons. It had been reported that Salisu was going to be handed his debut in the FA Cup tie against Shrewsbury on Saturday, but that game is now seemingly in doubt.

As it happens, his muscle injury probably means he would not play against Shrewsbury even if the game goes ahead. It has also been reported by Ghana Soccer Net that the centre-back is being monitored by his former club Real Valladolid, who might be tempted to move for him this month.

Southampton fans react to Salisu injury news

Many Southampton fans have been left frustrated that the defender is set to face even more time waiting for his debut for the club. Others suggested that there might be some unknown events going on behind the scenes to explain his continued absence.

One supporter mockingly called him ‘Danso v2’, a reference to the Austrian defender who played only 10 games during an abortive loan spell at St Mary’s last season.
