Saints fans react as Manchester United set to block Brandon Williams loan move

A number of Southampton fans have been reacting to a report from The Telegraph that Manchester United are set to block any loan move for Brandon Williams to St Mary’s this month.

Southampton have been interested in making a move for Williams since the summer transfer window, with the Saints having come close to agreeing a deal for the 20-year-old before United ultimately decided they wanted to keep hold of him. That was mainly to ensure that they had extra squad depth for the cup competitions in the first half of the season.

It has been reported that Manchester United are open to allowing the defender to leave the club on loan this month, with the framework of a loan move to Newcastle United having been agreed, according to the Shields Gazette. Therefore, it seems that Ralph Hasenhuttl might have to look elsewhere to strengthen his full-back options.

The Telegraph’s report suggests that Manchester United could decide to keep hold of Williams once again this month so they can ensure they have extra squad cover in case of injuries. However, the report added that, if the defender is allowed to leave on loan at some stage, it would not be to Southampton. That might have something to do with the Saints’ current proximity to them in the league table.
