Saints should place trust in Jankewitz instead of pursuing Kamara

Southampton and Leeds have been named as two sides who have reportedly watched Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara in recent weeks.

According to TEAMtalk, sides from England, France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine have all showed an interest in the 24-year-old.

Steven Gerrard wants to tie Kamara down to a new Ibrox deal as a result of interest across Europe.

However, we feel as if The Saints should be looking closer to home for midfield reinforcements instead of pursuing a deal for Kamara.

Southampton are known for their world-class academy and have a Category 1 status in the Premier League’s Elite Player Performance Plan.

The likes of Theo Walcott, Gareth Bale, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana are some of the modern stars to have made the breakthrough at St Mary’s over the last 15 years, and according to some fans, Alex Jankewitz could be the next.

The 18-year-old has been described as the ‘bright spark‘ of the academy recently following the last international break.

He’s clearly making huge strides and has already represented Switzerland at Under-21 level.

On the south coast, Jankewitz has been on the bench on three occasions but is yet to make his senior bow under Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The Austrian hinted that Jankewitz could be the next young player to make the breakthrough at the club towards the end of last season.

So, instead of rivalling the likes of Leeds and other sides interested in Kamara over the coming months, we feel as if the club should stick to their principles and bleed in Jankewitz to the first-team fold instead of firming up their interest in Kamara.
