Virals: Lyanco comments on Southampton debut

Southampton narrowly advanced to the last sixteen of the Carabao Cup against Sheffield United on penalties – with new Saints star Lyanco taking to Twitter to issue his verdict.

Southampton found themselves drawing 2-2 with the Blades at the full-time whistle, with the cup clash going straight to penalties with no extra time featuring in the early portions of the competition.

The Saints eventually prevailed 4-2 in the nervy shootout, whilst Ibrahima Diallo and Mohammed Salisu had etched their way onto the scoresheet prior to the late test of nerves.

However, it was Salisu’s defensive partner and Saints debutant Lyanco that notably took to Twitter to comment on his debut and the overall performance of the team.

Lyanco was replaced by fellow centre-back Jan Bednarek in the clash, but that did not stop the new arrival on the south coast from praising the efforts of his team.

Posting on social media, the defender said:

“A very difficult debut, hard game.

“Keep working… thanks to all the fans, it was wonderful to wear this shirt! I will always give my life for this team. We are classified!!!”

Lyanco, 24, joined Saints from Serie A outfit Torino for £6.4million last month. [Daily Echo]

The former Torino defender has featured at youth level for both Brazil and Serbia but has yet to be called up for either national side.

Conceding two goals and being hauled off prematurely is far from an ideal debut, but Lyanco’s focus on the performance and his commendation of the fans is a charming touch.

Regardless, seeing a new Saint in action for the first time is an enticing prospect and Lyanco will look to continue to endear himself to the fans with good performances and positive interactions.
