Jeremi Rodriguez is set to be announced as a Southampton player in the very near future.
The 17-year-old left-back flew into England at the weekend to have a medical and to agree terms with Saints and a source with close knowledge of the deal has exclusively revealed to Read Southampton that the finer details of the transfer are now complete and that the player will soon be announced as a Southampton player.
Rodriguez’s contract with Spanish side Las Palmas expired at the end of last season and as such, he will be leaving them to move to England on a free transfer.
However, that ‘free’ transfer won’t be free for Southampton as they’ll have to pay Las Palmas a compensatory fee for the player, and that, according to our source, will be around £390,000.
Rodriguez is apparently going to join the Saints first-team squad for pre-season but has been made aware that he will initially be part of the academy set up when the season starts with a view to moving him into the first-team fold in the near future.
