Leeds turn attentions to Augustin as Saints remain firm on keeping Adams

Leeds United have turned their attentions towards RB Leipzig forward Jean-Kevin Augustin as Southampton remain firm on keeping Che Adams, according to a report on The Athletic.

The Premier League club have rejected three offers from the Championship side for Adams.

Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has made it clear that he wants to keep Adams at the club and is not considering letting him leave this month.

The report now confirms that Leeds are after Augustin, who is currently on loan to Ligue 1 side Monaco.

READ SOUTHAMPTON VERDICT

Southampton are understandably baffled at Leeds’ pursuit of Adams after clearly telling them that he is not available.

The fact that they’re now identifying alternative targets comes as a big boost for the Saints because it could mean that finally, the Championship club have given up.

We believe that the 23-year-old has not met the expectations of him since he joined Southampton, scoring no goals in 21 appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

However, his work rate and effort whenever he’s been on the pitch has been pretty good. Hasenhuttl likes to use two strikers, so keeping Adams makes sense because he will come in handy when either Danny Ings or Shane Long need a rest.
