Former Celtic star Kris Commons believes the Hoops would send ‘shockwaves’ through Scottish football by signing Fraser Forster on a permanent deal.
The goalkeeper has been impressive since returning to Parkhead on loan from Southampton, and it seems Celtic are keen to keep hold of the England international.
Forster fell down the pecking order under Ralph Hasenhuttl at St Mary’s, with Alex McCarthy and Angus Gunn the preferred options.
Commons, however, feels that if a deal can be done, it would be a ‘blockbuster’ signing for Celtic.
Writing for the printed edition of The Scottish Daily Mail on Monday, he said:
It would send shockwaves through Scottish football if Celtic could clinch a deal to sign Fraser Forster permanently.
It would be a blockbuster signing and a huge statement of intent from the club. It should be a matter of urgency to get it done as soon as possible.
The issue has always been the fact that they just can’t match Forster’s basic wage at Southampton, which is in the region of £70,000 per week.
But it’s my understanding that Celtic are hopeful of structuring a deal to make it happen.

Forster would definitely be a marquee signing for Celtic, and reaching an agreement with the Scottish giants would surely be the best possible outcome for all parties.
The goalkeeper has been fantastic since returning to Scotland and has clearly regained a lot of the confidence that he lost during two testing years at St Mary’s.
Hopefully, he can continue to impress for Celtic before clinching a permanent move to the club.
