Out of favour Southampton striker Charlie Austin has reportedly been told to train with the Under-23 side, according to Sky Sports.

Austin has been placed on the Saints’ transfer list since the start of the summer after Ralph Hasenhuttl and his staff concluded that the former QPR forward was no longer part of their plans for the upcoming season.

The forward initially planned to see out the last year of his contract at St Mary’s, snubbing interest from West Brom, but after the latest revelations, it appears that he is unlikely to remain at the club.

Potential suitors have since, however, not been particularly forthcoming, with Austin’s poor injury record and fleeting form contributing to a lack of interest in the 30-year-old’s services.

Southampton have reverted to punishing the forward by insisting he trains with the Under-23’s for the foreseeable future – a decision that has only tethered relations further.

The Saints have allowed Austin to join fellow outcasts Mario Lemina and Jordy Clasie in speaking to other clubs about a potential move, but in withdrawing him from the sides pre-season training camp in Austria, the forward is now reportedly outraged with the treatment he has received.
