Southampton are said to be interested in signing Nantes midfielder Valentin Rongier this summer, according to reports in France.
A story from Le Foot, relayed by Sport Witness today, suggests the Saints are considering a move for the 24-year-old, who would cost around €15 million.
Rongier, who is captain of the Ligue 1 club, has been at Nantes his entire career so far and has made 132 appearances for ‘Les Canaris’, scoring 10 goals. He is versatile and can play in defensive, central or attacking midfield.
The Frenchman would provide competition to other Southampton midfielders as Ralph Hasenhuttl looks to strengthen his squad and move up the league after successfully helping the Saints avoid the drop last season.
Should the interest in Rongier be taken any further, the south coast club will face competition for his signature, with Aston Villa and Champions League side Lyon also looking at signing the versatile player.
