Southampton may have to spend a fee worth £20 million if they are to lure Jack Clarke away from Leeds United this summer.
The Saints have been linked with a swoop for the promising winger in recent times, with reports indicating that a £10 million bid could be enough to convince Marcelo Bielsa’s side into a sale.
However, contrasting claims from The Mirror have stated that Leeds are unwilling to negotiate their youngster’s departure unless their valuation of double the aforementioned price is met.
The 18-year-old enjoyed a positive breakthrough season at Elland Road. He scored two goals and chipped in with two assists from his 22 appearances in the Championship.
Although Leeds failed to secure promotion to the Premier League ahead of next season, Clarke was undoubtedly one of their brightest players, and there is a consensus that he has the potential to be a player of the highest quality.
Tottenham Hotspur are understood by The Mirror to also be in the race to sign the winger from Leeds in the current transfer window.
Other Championship players who Southampton should consider targeting
Adams had a fantastic season with Birmingham City. Surely a move to the Premier League awaits the promising forward this summer.
Bowen is another player who was in fine goalscoring form. The Hull City winger would be a shrewd signing for most Premier League clubs.
Watkins suits the quintessential mould of attacker that Ralph Hasenhuttl enjoys working with. The Brentford forward is strong, fast and has an eye for goal.
Dack was arguably Blackburn Rovers’ best player in the 2018/19 campaign. The playmaker could be ready for a step up.
Maupay, another Brentford front-man, enjoyed his football at Griffin Park. He was lethal in front of goal for the Bees this season.
