Celta Vigo will not pursue a permanent deal to sign Wesley Hoedt from Southampton this summer, according to a report from Spanish news outlet AS

The Dutchman departed St Mary’s Stadium in the January transfer window following the appointment of Ralph Hasenhuttl, who quickly excluded him from his first-team plans.

Hoedt started in all but one of Mark Hughes’s matches in the Premier League during the Welshman’s stint at the club, but under the new boss, he does not appear to feature in the plans for the future.

However, it seems Southampton will need to identify another suitor for the former Lazio defender this summer, with AS claiming that Celta will not sign him.

Hoedt struggled to establish himself in La Liga. He was sent off on his debut and found himself in and out of the team as they narrowly avoided the drop down to the second tier of Spanish football.

The report also states that Celta will not permanently move for their other Southampton loanee Sofiane Boufal. He could be assessed by Hasenhuttl in pre-season, according to other noises from Spain recently.
