KRC Genk could sell Southampton target Joakim Maehle if a sizable offer comes in the summer.

According to a report from Belgian news outlet Walfoot, the Saints saw a bid worth €12 million rejected for the promising right-back in the January transfer window.

Southampton offloaded Cedric Soares to Inter Milan on loan until the end of the season, seemingly prompting them to explore potential replacements for the Portuguese international.

However, no move materialised in the mid-season window, and Ralph Hasenhuttl has opted to utilise Yan Valery and James Ward-Prowse as options on the right-hand side of his back-five system.

Maehle could yet be a target for the Saints in the summer, though, and Walfoot’s report indicates that Genk could sell the young Danish Under-21 international.

The Pro League leaders could face a struggle as they bid to hold on to the 21-year-old, according to the Belgian news outlet, with an offer worth more than Southampton’s previous bid likely to convince them into a sale.
