Southampton have confirmed that Wesley Hoedt has joined Celta Vigo on loan for the remainder of the season.

The club, via their official website, have also confirmed that Celta have the option to make the move permanent in the summer should the Spanish side decide that they want to keep him.

Hoedt becomes the second Saints player to be loaned to Celta and he’ll join up with Sofiane Boufal, who is already at the Spanish side on a temporary deal of his own.

The Dutch star played 13 games for Saints early in the season but Ralph Hasenhuttl has not shown any indication of selecting the 24-year-old and as such, he’s been allowed to leave.

The new Saints boss is keen to reduce the size of his squad by letting some of those on the outer fringes of the team leave and Hoedt’s loan is an indication of his plan coming to fruition.
