The Daily Mail have claimed that Southampton are interested in signing RB Leipzig defender Willi Orban.

The centre-back has impressed in his time in the Bundesliga, captaining his side since 2017.

Ralph Hasenhüttl was evidently impacted by the former Kaiserslautern man in his time in charge of the German outfit, and could now take measures to bring the 26-year-old to the Premier League.

Southampton have shown themselves to be defensively porous at times this year, with a glaring hole in the starting XI next to summer signing Jannik Vestergaard.

The Dane has shown himself to be one of the few defensive bright-spots in Southampton’s season, following his €12 million transfer from Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Orban could prove to be a reliable partner for him, should the Saints manage to convince him a brighter future lies in England. Having appeared in 15 games so far this season in all competitions, it seems as though Leipzig wouldn’t let their skipper leave for a price below what they consider to be his value.

Would you welcome Orban to St Mary's?
