Manolo Gabbiadini is now expected to complete a permanent transfer to Sampdoria this month.
There had been some suggestions that the Serie A side will sign the player on an initial loan with an option to buy, but according to the Press Association’s Simon Peach, that is not the case.
Gabbiadini is now expected to complete a permanent move back to Italy after being heavily linked with a return.
A host of clubs have been linked with the forward after he fell out of favour under Mark Hughes.
The player remains unlikely to feature on a regular basis under Ralph Hasenhuttl, with the likes of Charlie Austin and Danny Ings ahead of him in the pecking order.
Hasenhüttl was a popular figure among Southampton supporters after the brilliant impact he had when he first arrived at the club, but his departure will now bring in added funds for Hasenhuttl to strengthen.
