Sheffield United are reportedly interested in a January move to sign Shane Long on loan from Southampton.
Football Insider reports that Long has emerged as a transfer target for the Blades after they shelved plans to sign Scott Hogan from Aston Villa.
United chased Hogan’s signature throughout the summer but ultimately missed out on a deal, however they remain keen to strengthen in the final third.
With Chris Wilder’s side in the running to secure a play-off place this season, the United boss wants to add to his squad in the new year to give the Blades a push over the finish line.

Wilder is said to be a fan of the player and could offer him a route of Southampton during the January window.
Long has fallen down the pecking order at Southampton, with the likes of Danny Ings and Charlie Austin ahead of him.
With just five appearances to his name this season, Long appears unlikely to break into Mark Hughes’ plans as a first-team regular anytime soon.
