It appears that Southampton will no longer be rivalled by Milan in the race to sign Gary Cahill this January.

According to reports in Italy, Milan would rather turn their attention to his Chelsea team-mate Andreas Christensen, offering hope to the likes of Southampton and others who are pursuing the former.

Both players are out of favour at Stamford Bridge and have been linked with January exits.

As expected, Christensen who is 11 years Cahill’s junior is the favoured option for Milan.

Southampton have previously been linked with the player. Mark Hughes is keen to strengthen in January and Cahill could be an option.

Cahill has been told that he can leave Chelsea during the January window after failing to break into Maurizio Sarri’s plans.

The club captain has found game time hard to come by with the Italian head coach preferring to use both David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger.
